OVERVIEW

BRIEF

The objective was to use an existing vehicle and ergonomically evaluate its design. The essential aspects of choice of the product were that there must be sufficient ergonomics evaluation available and it must be possible to build a representative model in SAMMIE/NX11.

DELIVERABLES

  • Siemens NX11 Model
  • Renders of model
  • SAMMIE Model
  • 20 Page report

OUTCOME

The current design of the ambulance does fit most user needs when critically evaluating the ergonomics of the two main sections (cabin and driver area). The investigation found that the 5th percentile frequently couldn’t reach items in the ambulance while the 95th percentile was frequently having to bend their neck a lot in order to look at the patient.

ERGONOMICS ANALYSIS SUMMARY

The ergonomic analysis for this proejct consisted of comparisons of the 5th and 95th percentile male and female models and whether they could conduct a number of tasks realted to ambulance usage. The examples below show some of the analysis condeucted:

Reach analysis of various items in the cabin

Reach analysis in a standing position in the cabin

Patient handling the cabin

Driver reach capabilities

Driver vision out of front of vehicle

Driver vision in side mirrors of vehicle

Passanger reach capabilites

Design change of stretcher to make it adjustable
